7 Problems That Invisalign® Corrects

Having a set of pearly whites that line up beautifully is an enviable asset, but few of us are fortunate enough to have naturally aligned teeth. While straight teeth go a long way toward creating a great smile, they also promote better dental health, which is why so many people straighten their teeth. And, increasingly, people are turning to Invisalign® to get the job done quickly and discreetly.

Recognizing the efficiency of this system, prosthodontist Dr. Negar Tehrani and Dr. Chang Yi at McLean Aura Dentistry are pleased to make Invisalign available to our patients through our cosmetic dentistry services. In fact, Invisalign can correct most of the alignment issues (malocclusions) that traditional metal braces can correct, and we review seven of those issues here.

1. Overbite

When the top row of your front teeth are positioned in front of the bottom row of your front teeth, we call this an overbite. Invisalign is a great option for bringing your front teeth in.

2. Underbite

With an underbite, your lower teeth jut out in front or your upper teeth when your teeth are closed. Invisalign can move the bottom teeth in, but severe forms of this malocclusion may stem from a problem in your jawbones that requires surgical correction in addition to Invisalign.

3. Crossbite

If, when your teeth are closed, some of your top teeth rest behind your lower teeth, this is known as a crossbite. In most cases, Invisalign is an effective option for alignment correction.

4. Gap teeth

If you have larger-than-normal spaces between your teeth, often between your two upper front teeth, you have what we call gap teeth. Invisalign is a great tool for bringing these teeth together.

5. Open bite

An open bite is one in which your teeth don’t come together when your mouth is closed. Here again, invisalign can play a valuable role in correcting this malocclusion.

6. Crowded teeth

If your jawbones aren’t able to accommodate all of your teeth, they can crowd and twist. To straighten out crowded teeth, we may make more room through tooth extraction and then turn to Invisalign to line up your remaining teeth. If your teeth aren’t too crowded, Invisalign alone can get the job done.

7. General straightening

If you don’t have a problem with alignment, but your teeth simply aren’t as straight as you’d like them to be, Invisalign is a fantastic solution for generally straightening your teeth.

The bottom line is that we’ve had great success using Invisalign to address a wide range of alignment issues. Through Invisalign, we can provide you with teeth that are easier to clean, facilitate chewing and talking with ease and are a source of pride when you smile.
